GENDER MATTERS EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD-Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche

Below is a few of my favorite quotes from Adichie’s speech.
THE PROBLEM WITH GENDER IS THAT IT PRESCRIBES HOW WE SHOULD BE, RATHER THAN RECOGNIZING WHO WE ARE.”

“The person more likely to lead is not the physically stronger person. It is the more creative person, the more intelligent person, the more innovative person. And there are NO HORMONES FOR THOSE ATTRIBUTES .

“A MAN IS AS LIKELY AS A WOMAN TO BE INTELLIGENT, TO be CREATIVE. To be innovative. WE HAVE EVOLVED BUT IT SEEMS TO ME OUR IDEAS OF GENDERS HAVE NOT EVOLVED”

Recently, I was able to come across, Novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie work. While watching her video, I thought to myself, why didn’t I have any knowledge of her before? Why couldn’t someone have recommended me to read her work before? Now that I discovered her on my own, I guess I have no one else to give credit to other than myself. After watching her video, I must admit I absolutely love it! She speaks so eloquently, with so much grace and confidence. I aspire to have those attributes one day (hopefully soon) both in my everyday life and when I speak in front of an audience. I may not know her personally, but so far I am convinced she is remarkable. She reminds me of why I love writing. Writers have a way of inviting you into their lives without you actually having been apart of it. They do it in such a comfortable and effortless way that makes you more intrigued. Writers leave you wanting more, I just hope that in my writing or speeches I will be able to leave my readers/audience with the same craving. The video (I highly recommend) included personal accounts of Adichhie’s life, as well as societal facts. Adichie did not over bare her audience by only speaking about herself, in fact she managed to link her experiences with the societal issues of gender inequality. Ms. Adichie is a strong believer of feminism. She speaks on vast topics in regards to societal gender disparities such as jobs, pay, education, relationships, etc. I don’t want to give away too much in my brief review. My goal is to just provide viewers with a brief synopsis, so you can know what you’re in for. I’m sure you can spare half an hour of your time to watch this amazing speech. I just hope my fellow bloggers enjoy the video as much as I did.
FYI- I watched it twice. Truthfully, I might just watch it again!
